Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital (KSVGH) proudly announced its emergence in the "World's Best Smart Hospitals 2025" ranking, conducted in collaboration between the American magazine Newsweek and research firm Statista. This marks the hospital's first participation and immediate recognition in this international accolade. The results, revealed on September 17th, featured 350 hospitals from 28 countries on the global smart hospital list, with Taiwan represented by 8 hospitals, including KSVGH. Dr. Chen Jin-shun, Director of KSVGH, stated, "Achieving international recognition on our first participation is truly remarkable. This not only affirms our long-term efforts in smart healthcare but also motivates us to keep advancing."
KSVGH has been dedicated to developing smart healthcare for many years, including: introducing advanced AI diagnostic systems to improve diagnostic accuracy, establishing a comprehensive electronic medical record system to optimize medical decision-making processes, promoting telemedicine services to expand scope of care, implementing smart medication systems to enhance drug safety, and introducing smart operating room management to improve surgical efficiency and quality. These efforts have not only enhanced medical quality but also significantly improved patient experiences.
This year marks the fourth time Newsweek and Statista have conducted the World's Best Smart Hospitals ranking. The 2025 evaluation was primarily based on three main criteria:
1. Domestic and international expert recommendations: Hospital administrators and healthcare professionals knowledgeable about smart hospitals were invited to make recommendations. Experts recommended hospitals they considered exemplary in the field of smart healthcare based on their expertise.
2. Statista maturity survey: Participating hospitals were required to complete a detailed maturity questionnaire covering 10 categories, including hospital information system completeness, electronic functionalities, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, virtual healthcare, robotic applications, patient and staff satisfaction surveys, patient safety, and other smart healthcare-related certifications and awards.
3. JCI accreditation: This indicator aimed to comprehensively assess the hospital's overall performance and smart healthcare level under international standards, considering whether the hospital has obtained Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
The survey was conducted in June this year. Statista collected recommendations from over 6,000 smart hospital experts worldwide, comprehensively considering the above three aspects and calculating the final score based on predetermined weights.
KSVGH's emergence from such intense international competition highlights its excellence in smart healthcare. Dr. Chen emphasized, "Our success is attributed to the hard work of all our colleagues. In the future, we will continue to invest in smart healthcare technology, improve the quailty of medical services, and create a happy workplace to attract more outstanding talents to join our team."
With this award as a milestone, Kaohsiung VGH will continue to promote smart healthcare development, providing patients with superior and more efficient medical services, while further elevating Taiwan's medical community on the international stage.
