Gait Analysis to facilitate pre-and post-intervention evaluation

The single-event-multilevel surgery shortens the treatment and maximizes physical function.

    Motion Analysis Laboratory

    1. The Preface:

The Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital (KVGH) Motion Analysis Laboratory, affiliated with the Department of Orthopaedic, was opened on April 23, 2005. The aim of the lab was to establish a motion analysis laboratory that will serve children with cerebral palsy, myelomeningocele, and other orthopaedic/neurological conditions.

    1. The Laboratory:

The walkway is 12 meters long with four AMTI OR6-7 force plates installed in it. Ten Eagle digital cameras (MAS) cover the walkway. We use 16 channels MA300-16 EMG system with ability of fine-wire technique. The lab is also equipped with floor mat type pedobarograph system (RSscan). The energy consumption system we use is K4b2 system (COSMED). We routinely document patients’ walking/running video as well as static images. The PT evaluation includes lower limbs ROM, muscle strength, selective motor control, muscle tone, GMFCS, and GMFM (dimension D).

    1. The Staff:

The laboratory team includes one physiotherapist, a technician and three physicians.

    1. The Hospital:

The KVGH established in 1990 is a 1,300-beds medical center located in the northeast of Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan. Although named as “Veterans”, this hospital provides huge service to women and children. The Pediatric Service has 120 beds includes the PICU and the Sick Newborns Units. This hospital is a tertiary refer center for Pediatric Orthopaedic Service.
